Many of us already use music as medicine, but most people do it unknowingly. The American study of 2015, that was based on the effects of music on patients with fibromyalgia (a disease characterized by severe muscle aches) showed that people who listened to music throughout the experiment experienced a significant reduction in pain compared to those who did not listen to music.
“The human brain is not very good at multitasking. So, when you focus on music, you are distracted from pain,” the researchers say.
2. Music helps to lose weight. Pleasant slow music, such as light jazz, helps us start eating less than usual. Such a conclusion was reached by researchers from Cornell University.
In addition, music is easier to do sports, go to work out, or just to walk more listening to favorite accords. Which is very important during weight loss.
3. Music enhances immunity. According to research by scientists from the University of Pennsylvania, music contributes to the production of immunoglobulin A – vital antibodies that provide immunity. In the course of the experiment, it became clear that the level of these antibodies in people who had light music played on the background was significantly higher than those who were in silence.
4. Music reduces anxiety. American researchers have found that people who suffer from a generalized anxiety disorder, after having regularly listened to relaxing music, felt the same psychological and physiological benefits as after massage sessions. Interestingly, a recent study by scientists from the University of Queensland, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, has shown that people who listen to heavy music are more likely to cope with such emotions as anger. Which in general improves the quality of work of the nervous system.
5. Music helps in saving a person’s life. Experts from the American Heart Association say that music adjusts to the right pace of artificial respiration and indirect heart massage. During resuscitation, the frequency of pressure on the chest should be about 100 per minute. At a similar pace (100-120 beats per minute), disco-style music sounds, for example, a song by the British band Bee Gees – Stayin’ Alive.
